NAR Director Applications

Applications are now being accepted for a state-allocated National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Director position, which is open to all members of the Montana Association of REALTORS® (MAR).
This position is part of Montana’s entitlement to appoint directors under the current NAR governance structure, which was updated in 2021 to ensure equitable representation across states and territories based on membership size. Serving as a NAR Director is a prestigious and impactful leadership opportunity to shape national REALTOR® policy and ensure the interests of Montana REALTORS® are well represented.

Eligibility and Expectations

- Be a REALTOR® member in good standing, actively engaged in the business of real estate.
- Have experience serving within NAR Governance, a state or local REALTOR® association, or an NAR-affiliated Institute, Society, or Council.
- Submit a written application that includes:
- A statement describing their involvement in real estate, their motivation for seeking the position, and what they can contribute to NAR leadership.
- A commitment to support the mission, priorities, and core values of NAR.
- An acknowledgment to fulfill all duties and responsibilities and abide by NAR policies.
Performance Expectations
If selected to serve, each NAR Director is expected to:
- Serve on at least one NAR committee, forum, or advisory group to remain well-informed on policy matters and act as a resource to local members.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, effective communication, and proficiency in technology and social media platforms.
- Review all meeting materials in advance and participate fully in every Board meeting.
- Forfeit the position if two consecutive Board meetings are missed, unless an exception is granted by the Board based on a written explanation.
- Resign or be subject to removal if they breach their fiduciary duties or violate NAR’s conflict of interest or harassment policies.
Confidentiality Requirement
In accordance with MAR policy, all applications for NAR Director and MAR officer positions shall remain confidential until the Nominating Committee has completed its review and formally placed candidate names on the ballot.
Candidates may not contact members or promote their candidacy in any way until the Nominating Committee has confirmed their eligibility and qualifications.
Any violation of this requirement—as determined by the Nominating Committee—will result in disqualification and removal from ballot consideration.
